Tatiana Cerna
Laboratory Technician, Roatan
My full name is Tatiana Michelle Cerna Guifarro, I was born and raised in Tegucigalpa, Honduras but my family is from the state of Olancho, Honduras. Ever since I can remember I’ve always had an affinity to animals, for a long time wanting to become a veterinarian. As I grew older there were two things very clear in my life, loving to swim and loving science. Then I was introduced to the term Biology and ever since then it’s what I always wanted to do. Once in college I started studying Biology and by the end focused on the marine sector of Biology, combining the two things I loved most. Becoming a Biology major in 2025 from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras opened the doors for future opportunities. Now I’m in charge of the role of laboratory technician at the Bay Islands Conservation Association (BICA) in Roatán and part of the job is also being able to help in monitoring activities by diving or other field work. My work continues and so does my want to keep learning.
