HELP US BUILD the CRAWFISH ROCK
cOMMUNITY CENTER

The Crawfish Rock community, nestled on Roatan Island, holds a rich history tied to the abundance of lobster, once known locally as "crawfish," that flourished in its waters. Crawfish Rock is a close-knit community of approximately 600 residents who rely on traditional livelihoods such as fishing, farming, crab catching, hunting, and construction to sustain themselves. The residents, native black English-speaking people, represent the vibrant culture and heritage of the Bay Islands.

Crawfish Rock is located next to the Bay Islands National Marine Park, surrounded by a stunning natural environment, including a mangrove forest that is a crucial protective barrier for the area. Despite this, the community faces many challenges, including limited access to electricity, potable water, and adequate sanitation infrastructure.

A Center of Hope at Crawfish Rock

Amid challenges, the Crawfish Rock community has identified its most urgent need: a dedicated space that serves as a safe haven for children and a hub for community growth. The envisioned Crawfish Rock Community Center will be a transformative addition to the area, providing:

  • A Safe Place for Children: After-school programs offering tutoring, homework help, classes, recreational activities, and sports.

  • Community Meeting Space: A venue for gatherings, events, and activities that foster unity and collaboration among residents.

  • Essential Healthcare Access: A small clinic to provide basic medical care locally, reducing the need for residents to travel far for treatment.

How You Can Help:

Your support will make this vision a reality. The total cost of this project is $240,000, which will cover:

  • Land Purchase: $80,000 plus closing costs for 1,097.32 square meters of land.

  • Construction: $160,000 to build a center featuring classrooms, a clinic, a kitchen, bathrooms, and offices for community boards and NGOs.
