Open House & 35th Anniversary

BICA's Open House coincided with the celebration of BICA's 35th Anniversary, marking more than three decades of conservation work across the Bay Islands. The event took place in the last week of March and second week in April, in each of the three Bay Islands, welcoming local allies including dive shops, partner organizations, and businesses that actively support BICA's mission.

Open House & 35th Anniversary

The Open House featured four interactive stands, each representing one of BICA's core pillars. At each station, staff presented hands-on impact demonstrations and presentations highlighting key achievements and milestones from BICA's trajectory in each pillar. Attendees also had the opportunity to directly support BICA's programs through donations at each pillar station, contributing to their continued implementation and community initiatives.

"It was encouraging and gratifying to see the expressed interest by the attendees in continuing to support these conservation efforts."

A fundraiser raffle with prizes offered unique local experiences in Port Royal National Park and the coral nursery, encouraging community participation while raising additional support for BICA's work.

A corporate video highlighting BICA's work and achievements throughout the Bay Islands showcased the dedication of staff, partners, and community members over the years. As part of the celebration, BICA presented a special recognition certificate to individuals or organizations whose leadership, support, and commitment have significantly contributed to conservation and sustainability in their island communities.

The event concluded with a cake celebrating BICA's 35 years of achievements.

Strategic Plan

During the month of February, BICA developed its Strategic Plan with the aim of strengthening the organization's vision and clearly guiding the conservation efforts of its programs for the coming years. This participatory process brought together the technical team, enabling a review of the mission, vision, and institutional values, as well as the identification of strategic priorities.

Additionally, key stakeholders were analyzed, a SWOT analysis was conducted, and lines of action were defined to enhance the impact of programs in the communities of the Bay Islands, ensuring more effective and sustainable management aligned with the needs of the region.

EcoShop

BICA's EcoShop is a space that promotes responsible consumption and supports local initiatives committed to environmental conservation. By selling sustainable and reusable products, the EcoShop aims to reduce the use of single-use plastics and encourage lifestyles that are more friendly to our ecosystems.

In addition, every purchase directly contributes to strengthening the environmental education and marine conservation programs promoted by BICA, making this space an opportunity for visitors and residents to actively join in the protection of our natural resources.

These milestones, a landmark anniversary celebrated across three islands, a forward-looking strategic plan, and an expanding EcoShop network, reflect the steady and collective effort that has defined BICA for 35 years. The enthusiasm shown by attendees, partners, and community members at the Open House is a reminder that conservation is not the work of one organization alone, but of everyone who calls the Bay Islands home.

BICA looks ahead with renewed purpose, grateful for the support of its allies and committed to continuing this work for the years to come.
